The first day of school for Thackerville High School ended with one student in police custody and another in the hospital.
Police Chief Brandon Stockard said a 17-year-old male juvenile student stabbed an 18-year-old female student after the end of the school day Monday around 3 p.m. in a campus building.
Stockard said the identity of the victim is being withheld at this time.
Superintendent David Herron confirmed the incident occurred.
“There was an incident between two students,” Herron said. “To my knowledge, there are no life-threatening injuries.”
Stockard said the female student was taken to a nearby hospital to receive medical treatment.
The chief said the suspect had the weapon on his person throughout the school day.
“Everyone acted quickly, and the safety of the students was secured,” Herron said.
Love County Undersheriff Jason Bone said the suspect was being detained Monday evening.
