Services for Loretta “Lori” Ross, 77, of Marietta, are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday in Marietta’s First Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Harris officiating, assisted by Rev. Tim Emmons. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.

 

The daughter of George and Era Fowler Bennett, Mrs. Ross was born August 13, 1934 in Arnoldview, Okla. She passed away Dec. 21, 2011, in a Tulsa, Okla. hospital.

 

A 1952 graduate of Wayne High School, Wayne, Okla., she then attended East Central University, Ada, Okla. Mrs. Ross was the first woman in the State of Oklahoma to hold the position of County Executive Director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Farm Service Agency. Following her retirement after more than 30 years of employment with that agency, she worked at the Marietta Public Works Authority and also the First National Bank of Marietta. She and Marty Ross were married in Dallas, Texas, on March 13, 1971.

 

As a very active member of Marietta’s Eastside Baptist Church, Mrs. Ross was involved in all facets of church activities including AWANA, Children’s Ministry, Youth Leader, Ladies Bible Studies/Prayer Groups, Ladies’ Outreach Ministries, Nursing Home Ministries, Church Choir and Special Music presentations. In addition she taught a Sunday School Class with her husband.

 

The couple have lived on a ranch south of Marietta established in 1998 the couple established a ranch south of Marietta which is appropriately named Cross and Crown Ministries. Each year Marty and Lori held soccer camps and cowboy camps there, all to honor Jesus. It is a place where families can enjoy the outdoors and horses and hear about Jesus. As Lori would say, “It doesn’t get much better than that.” The couple has also been active in other Rodeo Bible Camps with the Fellowship of Christian Cowboys.

 

Her hobbies included bowling, softball, reading (especially the Bible), listening to music, singing and sharing Jesus with children and youth. Always happy, she especially enjoyed working with young people.

 

Preceding her in death were her parents; first husband, Wilbur Edgmon in 1970; a daughter, Shaunna, killed in a car accident in 1995; and four brothers, Herman, Jay, Glen and Dean Bennett.

 

Survivors include her husband, Marty of the home; two children, daughter Carla Gwin of Wayne who is a nurse and son Barry Ross of Oklahoma City who is a major with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

 

Other survivors are Barry’s wife, Terilyn; Carla’s husband, Michael; brother and sister-in-law, Qunin and Phyllis Bennett of Purcell, Okla.; two sisters, Venita Hawkins of Norman, Okla. and Rita Liberty, also of Purcell; and special friend, Carolyn Lancaster of Marietta. There are two others who are loved as their daughters, Katie Smith and husband, Chris, and Becky Stilwell and husband, Brandon. The couple has four grandchildren, Callie Henry and husband Brandon, Kyle Wells and wife Cayce, Kyli Erickson and husband John and Dior Ross; and nine great-grandchildren (including Katie’s two and Becky’s two), numerous others as “adopted” kids and a host of friends and relatives.

 

Serving as bearers will be Johnny Harper, Wayne Bond, Dale Harvey, Mike Buxton, Richard Cross and Joel Hicks. Honorary bearers are Dale Harris, Dean Holden, Mark Basinger, Marty Grisham, Al Hendrix, Roy Eaves, Chris Flanagan, Steve Morehead, Bobby Sharp, Dean Williamson, Leon Brown, G.W. Flanagan, Jerry Harper, Carol Wayne Flanagan, Carl Gragg, Jim Tye and Trent Harvey.
