Mona Dean Blanton, age 59, and a lifelong resident of Ardmore, Okla., passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Having been diagnosed with breast cancer in August, 2000, she proved she was a strong opponent and would withstand the fight and conquer the enemy. In June 2009, the news of the returning cancer was not taken lightly. This time the disease had attacked her lungs, then liver, and vocal chords. She told the doctors with confidence “I’ve been here before and I can do this again.” With all her strength and courage, she faced this new challenge head on, never giving up hope and always staying positive. Attitude is the key. She fought for nine months, up to the very end with faith and dignity. She was surrounded by her loving family and dearest friends when she left this world as we know it to go be with her Lord and Savior.

Visitation services will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 17,2010, followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at Griffin Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Terry Walker will officiate the services. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in the Garden of Meditation.

Mona was born Aug. 10, 1950, in Ardmore, Okla., to Obie and Claudine Johnson.

She married Harry Truman Blanton on Jan. 8, 1968, in Ardmore, Okla. In celebration of 42 years of marriage and their true love, they renewed their wedding vows in January 2010.

Mona worked various jobs in her life as well as many volunteer projects. She loved playing bingo, going fishing with her family and “shopping”. She was a lifetime member of The Ladies Auxiliary Post where she held several positions. Her most important job and most  gratifying was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Family was her first priority and her greatest joy. Mona was blessed with the “gift of gab” and never met a stranger. She was loved by all that knew her. She had many friends and made all of them “family”.

Mona is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Harry Truman Blanton, of the home; daughter, Lisa Blanton of Lake Dallas, Texas; son, Chief Petty Officer US Navy Harry Truman “Bubba” Blanton and wife, Shelly of Stonewall, La.; son, Obie Blanton and wife, Melisa, of Ardmore, Okla.; five grandchildren, Josie, Emery, Drae, Bryar and Malory; two sisters, Patricia Foster, of Kingston, Okla., and “Punkin” Lawanda Norris and husband, Terry of Lafayette, La.; aunt, Winnie “Aunt Skeet” Goodrich of Ardmore, Okla.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and extended family.
