Services for Glenda Gayle Parr, of Marietta, Okla., are set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, in the Marietta Church of Christ with Bro. Travis Huffman officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thackerville, Okla., under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Marietta.

Mrs. Parr was born May 30, 1945, in Ardmore, Okla., the daughter of Malcolm Carl and Violet June Floyd Long. She passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at her residence near Marietta at the age of 64.

A resident of Love County since 1988, Mrs. Parr had previously made her home in Euless, Texas, Carnegie, Okla., and Ft. Cobb, Okla. She and Vance Parr were married Sept. 1, 1973, in Carter County, Okla. A 1963 graduate of Turner High School, Mrs. Parr received a bachelor of science degree in Business Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant, Okla., in 1970 and in 1973 a master’s degree in Learning Disabilities from East Central University, Ada, Okla. She taught school at Greenville Elementary and also worked in clerical and accounting. She enjoyed helping people, especially cooking for them. She also delighted in helping the senior residents at the Fern Markwell Suites in Marietta. Mrs. Parr was a member of the Marietta Church of Christ.

Preceding her in death were her maternal grandparents, Malon Scott Floyd and Ruby Tabler Floyd; paternal grandparents, Walter M. Long and Mary Elizabeth “Mollie” Hodges Long; and her mother, June Floyd Long.

Survivors include her husband, Vance Parr of the home; father, Malcolm Long of Ardmore; a son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Megan Parr of Edmond, Okla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Doug Canant of Durant; a brother, J.D. “Jimmy Don” Long of Marietta; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Rudy Manley of Durant; a granddaughter, Kassandra Canant; aunt, Marie Floyd; two nieces, Shanna Christie and Taryn Busby; a nephew, Curtis Manley; great-nieces and nephews, Bailey Christie, Ty Christie, Logan Busby and Beckham Manley; and special friends, Mary Fraire and Jemie Hice.

Serving as bearers will be Eric Henderson, John Thompson, Curtis Willis, Ray Hilliard, Tom Hice and Jim Bone. Honorary bearers are Dr. Kevin Reed, David Wolfe, Greg Hambrick, Quinton Russell, James Snyder, Pete Jordan, Al Ridgeway and the staff of Cross Timbers Hospice.

The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. tonight at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
