Services for Ludie Donald “L.D.” Shannon, 79, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. E.J. Toles officiating. Interment will follow in Hickory Cemetery.

L.D. was born in Frederick, Okla., on Oct. 21, 1930, to Ludie and Hattie Lucille Shannon and passed away on Nov. 13, 2009, in the Oklahoma City VA Hospital. He grew up in Newport, Okla., where he was raised by Myrtle Sophie Abram. He attended Jehovah Elementary School and graduated from Tatum High School in 1949.

L.D. was a resident of Milo, Okla., most of his life. He served in the Korean War in 1952. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He married Mae Doris Pickens on Dec. 31, 1954, and with this union were three children. He was employed at Georgia Pacific for 33 years up to his retirement.

In 2004, L.D. reunited and was a faithful member at Mt. Olive Baptist Church until his failing health prevented.

He was preceded in death by his Granny Sophie; his parents; two brothers; wife, Mae Doris; and son, L.D. Jr.

He leaves to forever cherish his memories his son, David Shannon and daughter-in-law,Sharmaine of Aurora, Colo.; his daughters, Brenda Booker of Ardmore and son-in-law, Bruce of Killeen, Texas; grandchildren, Shemeka, Andrea, Carlotta, Bruce Jr., Whitney, Montoya, Talana, Sequita, Kris, Walter, Nikayla, Tesheima, Melvin, Darneice and Tori; 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jones of Chickasha, Okla.; a brother, Leonard B. Cayton and wife Marsha of Edmond, Okla.; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Grant & Owens Mortuary in Ardmore.
