Edwin (Mutt) Cothran, 89 of Mannsville, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, November 20, 2009, at his home in Mannsville. Mutt was born on April 2, 1920, in Mannsville, Oklahoma, to the late Fred Cothran and Orillah Norton Cothran. He was raised in Mannsville and graduated from the Mannsville High School in 1939. Mutt married Iva Lou Bailey on August 2, 1946, in Marietta, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on August 7, 2009. He and Iva Lou lived on their family farm north of Mannsville his entire life. Mutt worked for the Highway Department as a Bridge Inspector for over 20 years. He was affiliated with the Baptist faith and he enjoyed farming peanuts, working and fishing.
He is survived by his children, Ty (Junior) Taylor and wife Arvetta, Springtown, Texas, Charles Cothran and wife Susan, Stonewall, Oklahoma, Mike Cothran and wife Susan, Mannsville, Oklahoma, Jorene Little and husband David, Kingston, Oklahoma, Gary Cothran, Mannsville, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Mike Taylor and wife Julie, Mark Taylor and wife Stefanie, Melody Overton and husband Steve, Kandie Romines and husband Ricky, Kassie Cothran and wife Somerlyn, Brian Cothran and wife Ginger, Brianne Cothran, Gary Riley and wife Beckie, Michelle Nance and husband Craig, Tonya Riley, Bam Cothran; 23 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ogle and husband; Sam, Weatherford, Oklahoma, numerous nieces and nephews.
Mutt was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one sister; Edith Harbolt.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 23, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Watts Memorial Chapel, Madill, Oklahoma. Kenneth McCarthick and Cathy Robbins will officiate the services. Music will be arranged by Ginger, Brianne and Macy Cothran. Interment will be at the Mannsville Cemetery, Mannsville, Oklahoma. Services will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Madill, Oklahoma.
Casket bearers are Brian Cothran, Mike Taylor, Mark Taylor,Gary Riley, Bam Cothran, Kassie Cothran, Ricky Romines, Steve Overton. Military honors by the Chickasaw Nation Honor Guard. Honorary bearers are Frank James, Velin Barnes, Pete Fox, Pete Burton and Tim Williamson.
Visitation will be today from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a family hour from 6 to 8 p.m. at Watts Funeral Home, Madill.
