Pauline ‘Shankles’ Holbrook

Graveside services for Pauline “Shankles” Holbrook, 98, of Marietta, Okla., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, in the Burneyville Cemetery, Burneyville, Okla., under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta. Officiating will be Rev. Ronnie Harris.


Mrs. Holbrook was born May 18, 1911, at Burneyville, the daughter of Samuel and Clara  Davis Shankles. She passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore, Okla.


Mrs. Holbrook had been a resident of Love County most of her life. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma and taught school in several towns in the Texas panhandle, including at Lubbock, Plainview and Amarillo. Mrs. Holbrook was a member of Marietta’s Eastside Baptist Church.


She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Naydeen Shankles; and two brothers, Samuel Shankles and Douglas Shankles.


Survivors include two sisters, Juanita Streetman of Oklahoma City, and Alyne Price of Lubbock, Texas.


Viewing will be from 9 a.m. until noon Wednesday at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
