Lillian Maxine Smith, 94, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012, in Ardmore, Okla. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012, at The House of Prayer with Pastor Larry Murray and Pastor Leo Potts officiating.
Maxine was born August 4, 1917, in Healdton, Okla., to McKinney and Myrtle (Miller) Brown. She married Clyde C. Smith, who preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Blossom Brown Smith, Joy Brown Allison and Jean Adams; three brothers, Delmer Vern Brown, Samuel Cantrell Brown and Ira “Rusty” Brown; and one granddaughter, Timalee McCartney.
Maxine attended and graduated from Healdton High School. She worked in the bakery in Healdton and then moved to Los Angeles, Calif., to find work when she met and married Clyde C. Smith.
They moved to Ardmore, Okla., in 1972 to help care for her mother and brothers. Maxine took a position at Ardmore Middle School Cafeteria as a cafeteria attendant. In her pastime, she enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was a member of The House of Prayer and she will be remembered as a person that loved to baby-sit, working in the nursery and singing in the choir. She later joined the Faith Heritage Church of Lone Grove.
She is survived by her four children, Steven Grant Smith and wife, Lisa of Santa Rosa, Calif., Vicki Smith of Ardmore, Okla., Karen Ford and husband, Jeff of Hodgen, Okla., and Timothy Charles Smith and wife, Julia of Lone Grove, Okla. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Davenita Brown Cooper of La Habra, Calif.; and her brother, McKinley Gladden Brown of Ardmore, Okla.
Honorary pallbearers will be C.J. Capraro, Kenny Brown, Harold Brown, Tim Smith, Steven Smith, McKinley Brown and Ronald Reams.
Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2012, at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home.
