Funeral services for Mr. Ray Lewis Dewbre, 90, of Wilson are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Alexander Funeral Chapel in Wilson with Rev. Robert Peterson officiating and Bro. Richard Lakey assisting. Interment will follow at Orr Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home.
Ray was born March 17, 1919, in Ryan, Okla. to the late Mr. Wintford F. and Mrs. Josephine (Tyre) Dewbre. He departed this life Wednesday evening, Nov. 4, 2009, at Ardmore.
Ray was raised in the Courtney area attending school there and at Petersburg. He graduated from Orr High School in 1942. He attended college for one year at Cameron in Lawton. He married the former Ms. Hazel Marie (Miller) Dec. 21, 1958, at Wilson. They resided at Wilson raising their children. Ray attended the Pentecostal Church and enjoyed singing and playing his guitar during worship. He never met a stranger and always enjoyed visiting. He enjoyed taking care of his chickens and gardening.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Hazel, Aug. 25, 1999; granddaughter, Kelsey Peoples, Oct. 7, 1993; three infant siblings and six other siblings.
Survivors include daughters, Judy Wilson and husband Don of Overbrook, and Ruby Peoples and husband Rod of Mannsville; sister, Bonnie Farris and husband Dub of Ringling; granddaughter, Jaci Peoples of Mannsville; and his beloved schnauzer, “Buddy” who’s been with him for 10 years.
Pallbearers will be Don Wilson, Rick Brown, Bobby Cobb, Jimmy Langford, Don Adams and Douglas Farris. Honorary bearers will be Bob Brown and A.C. Overby.
Family visitation will be tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Wilson.
