Harold G. ‘Scooter’ Harris

Graveside services for Harold G. “Scooter” Harris will be Wednesday, March 17, 2010, 2 p.m., at Young Cemetery with the Rev. Jody Ham officiating.


Scooter was born Aug. 23, 1930, at Provence, Okla., to Joe B. and Myrtle Olivia Gist Harris. He passed from this life on March 14, 2010, in the local hospital at the age of 79.


He and Carolyn Ruth Young were married Jan. 26, 1951, at Ardmore. She preceded him in death May 4, 1997.


Scooter was a lifelong resident of this area. He was an Army veteran having served a tour with the 45th infantry at Okido, Japan. Scooter was a retired Lab Tech with Valero. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, avid golfer, and dancer. His favorite dancing was the waltz and swing. He had a rememberable day on July 18, 1985, when he hit a hole in one at Lakeview Golf Course. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and was a Methodist.


He is survived by his daughter, Jeanna Gaither and her husband, Virgil of Ardmore; son, Gary Harris of the home; sister, Mary Sue Howard of Bedford, Texas; brother, Hubert Harris and wife, Louise of Ardmore; three grandchildren, Carrie Ruth Hacker and her husband, Adam of Lone Grove, Harold Matthew Harris and wife, Jennifer of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Charles Wayne Gaither and wife, Amanda of Ardmore;  three great-grandchildren, Abby and Carter Harris of Cave Creek, Ariz., Wyatt Hacker of Lone Grove; daughter-in-law, Lynette Patterson of Ardmore; sister-in-law, Geraldine Harris of Ardmore; and special friend, Bobby Epley of Wilson.


He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn Ruth Harris; son, Harold Ray Harris; and brother, Bennie Joe Harris.


Pallbearers will be Charlie Gaither, Harold Matt Harris, Adam Hacker, Virgil Gaither, Larry Harris, and Michael Harris. Honorary bearers are Boise Harris, Martin Wright, Mike Wright, David Harris, Billy Harris, and Jerry Harris.


The family will receive friends this evening from 5-6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
