Melba Eileen Cody, 80, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at Ardmore, Okla. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2010, in the Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest with the Reverend Dan Patman officiating. Interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2010, at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta, Kan.
Eileen was born on April 4, 1929, in Cherokee, Kan., to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Winfield Frey and Clara (Cannefax) Frey. She married Charles James Cody on March 20, 1949, at Valley Center, Kan. With her husband, Charles, employed with Mobil Oil, she and the children followed him to Hutchison, Burrton, Palco, Hill City, Augusta, Kan., and Healdton, Okla. After his retirement, the couple located to Ardmore, Okla.
Eileen was a devoted homemaker and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She took pride in her home and family. Eileen was an excellent cook and her chicken and noodles will be missed at family gatherings. She enjoyed visiting her kids and grandkids. In her spare time, she liked working on jigsaw puzzles. As a young bride, Eileen began listening to her “soaps” on the radio with Charles’ grandmother. She has enjoyed them ever since.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Zandra Mae Cody; mother, Clara Golden (Cannefax) Frey; father, Edward Winfield Frey II; and stepfather, Benjamin A. Edmonds; brothers, Stuart Cannefax, Edward W. Frey III, Howard “Bud” Frey, and Alvin V. Frey; sisters, Eleanor L. (Frey) Brooks, Clarabelle “CB” (Frey) Schultz, and Margaret Golden Frey.
Eileen is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Charles, of the home; sons, Neal Cody and wife, Jeanne of Ada, Okla., and Rick Cody and wife, Theresa of Shawnee, Okla.; daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Cody Yandell and husband, Gerald of Spring, Texas; grandchildren, Justin Yandell and wife, Nikki of Austin, Texas, Derek Cody of Starkville, Miss., Brandon Yandell of Houston, Jared Cody of Shawnee, Okla., Megan (Cody) Broderick and husband, Zack of Weatherford, Okla., and Ryan Yandell of College Station, Texas.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home.
