Funeral Mass for Paul Edward Wiles, 84, will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 2, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas O’Toole officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. A Rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home with Deacon Rod Walker officiating.


The son of Jess and Gracie Mae Blair, Wiles was born on Aug. 25, 1924 near Panama, Okla. and passed away on June 27, 2009 in Ardmore, Okla. He and the former Nora Margaret Maher were married on Oct. 27, 1951 in Ardmore, Okla., and she preceded him in death on July 30, 1995. Paul was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Terry F. Wiles; grandson, Jordan Thomas Wiles; a brother, Willie Wiles; and daughter-in-law, Jeanne Wiles.


Paul served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Following that he graduated from Oklahoma A&M College. Mr. Wiles had been a resident of Ardmore since 1955. He was a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service and also operated a ranch and pecan farm north of Ardmore. Paul loved to fish with his friends and grandchildren. He was a member of both the Southern Circle Square Dance Club and the Two Left Feet Dance Club. Mr. Wiles was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. As a former Boy Scout leader, he was proud that his three sons and four grandsons all achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.


Mr. Wiles is survived by his sons, Paul G. Wiles and wife Sharon of Ardmore, and Thomas Wiles and wife Janice of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter, Beth Knight and husband Tom of Lubbock, Texas; brother, Carl Wiles and wife Anna Louise of Shady Point, Okla.; grandchildren, Melissa Roberts and husband Zach, Jason Wiles, Alex Knight, Mark Knight and wife Erin, Jessica Wiles and Jacob Wiles; great-grandson, Matthew Wiles; a long time friend, Louise Owens of Ardmore; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Pallbearers will be Paul King, Charles Tanner, Alex Knight, Mark Knight, Jason Wiles and Jacob Wiles.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice, 207 C Street NW, Ardmore, OK 73401.
