Memorial services for Paul Eugene Grider, 84, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2012, in Rose Hill Cemetery conducted by Rev. Frank Simpson.  Services will be directed by Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory.

 

Born to the late Ola Thomas and Annie Power Grider, March 16, 1927, at Ardmore, he died at his Lake Texoma residence, Thursday, January 26, 2012, following a battle with esophageal cancer. 

 

Paul had attended Ardmore schools and obtained his G.E.D. while serving in the U. S. Army.
Paul and Mary Kaye Rabun married June 12, 1946, at Gainesville, Texas. He served in the Army of Occupation following World War II, 1947 – 1948, serving on General McArthur’s Special Services Golf Team. He traveled throughout Japan, playing and instructing the game of golf; and also assisted in the operation of a Japanese golf course, under General McArthur. In 1950 Paul re-entered the U. S. Army, serving with the 179th Infantry of the 45th Division during the Korean War. Following his military service he was a salesman for several years and following his move to Oklahoma in 1973, was a Deputy Sheriff in Oklahoma County, serving in several administrations.
Following his retirement from the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Department, Paul and Kaye moved to their home at Lake Texoma, where he enjoyed fishing, golfing and playing cards with his friends. He was a lifetime member of the Southern Oklahoma Military Museum and member of the Board of Directors of the Buncombe Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and helped to build their new fire station.

 

Paul is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Mary Kaye; daughter, Linda Hera; sons, Paul, Jr.; Robert and his wife, Patti; daughter-in-law, Judy; brother, O. T. and sister, Marjorie Ann; grandchildren, Amy McAnally, Amber Roberts, Joseph, Jonas, Paul III, Caleb and Lucas Grider; Kristi Byrne and 12 great-grandchildren.  

 

He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne; his parents; a sister, Ola Rae Cox; brothers, L. D., J. C., Forest and Leonard Grider.

 

Memorials may be made to the Buncombe Creek Volunteer Fire Department, 12989 Holiday Park Drive, Kingston, OK 73439; the Southern Oklahoma Military Museum, 35 Sunset Drive, Ardmore, OK 73401; or Victory Home Health and Hospice, 601 Highway 70-E, Kingston, OK 73439.
