Services for Bob Birdwell, of Marietta, Okla., are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, in Marietta’s First Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Higle officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Born Jan. 13, 1938, in Jefferson, Texas, the son of Clarence and Elizabeth Anderson Birdwell, Mr. Birdwell passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta, at the age of 71.

Mr. Birdwell moved to Marietta in 1960 to make his home. He then lived in Dallas for a while, returning to Love County in 1990. He and Linda K. Davis were married in Weatherford, Texas, on April 14, 1983.

A truck driver, Mr. Birdwell drove for Little Brownie, Ronnie Austin Cattle Company, ANR Freight System and most recently Love County District 1. Bob’s passion in life was driving his trucks and race cars. Specifically, he enjoyed working with Ronnie Austin, an individual who touched him dearly. Bob started driving a truck as a teenager and drove for more than 50 years without an accident. He also loved to tinker with items, taking them apart and putting them back together. He thoroughly enjoyed people, often playing pranks on them but also always willing to help others as well. Bob enjoyed camping and traveling with his friends and was often the “life of the party.” He will be remembered for his unforgettable smile! As a child, Mr. Birdwell was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, but in recent years was affiliated with Marietta’s First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Leroy Birdwell.

Survivors include his wife, Linda K. Birdwell of the home; two sons, Steve Ray Birdwell and Kam Wayne Birdwell, both of Marietta; three daughters, Toni Dee Birdwell, also of Marietta, Shawnna Fethkenher of Mesquite, Texas, and Gayla Lynne Snow of Grapevine, Texas; a brother, Joe Birdwell of Henderson, Texas; a sister, Judi Wetmore of Gentry, Ark.; five grandchildren, Timmy, Whitney, Tiffany, Mehgan and Kandis; and six great-grandchildren, Alexis, Garyn, Taylor, Haden, Madysen and Bali.

Serving as bearers will be Allen Jacobs, Tony Tamez, Vonder “Pete” Burkhart, Mike Caldwell, Richard Quisenberry and James Segler. Honorary bearers will be Bunky Mayes, Lynn Puckett, Joe Pete Martin, Tom Canton, Jerry Scheihing, James Wade and Ronnie Austin.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. tonight at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Youth Department of Marietta’s First Baptist Church, c/o Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, 100 East Main St., Marietta, OK 73448.
