Ardmore, OK —

Russell Dean Hayes was born on May 12, 1938, in Coldwater, Kansas, to Gerold and Gertrude (French) Hayes. He passed from this life on November 5, 2009, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, at the age of 71.

He retired from the Department of Human Services in 2000 after 27 years of service.

He married Mary Michels on May 26, 1956, in Halstead, Kansas, and they were together for 53 years.  He is survived by his wife, Mary and their three sons, Kerry, Greg and Kenneth, all of Ardmore; two grandchildren, Kerra Dawn Fureh, and her husband, Felton, of Austin, Texas, and Dustin Oleath Hayes of Tulsa, Oklahoma; eight nephews and 10 nieces and special friends, Tracy Campbell, Kathleen Dalton-McKinnon and Mike Waller and his wife, Sabrina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters, a niece, a great-niece and a great-nephew.

Russell loved to hunt for quail and pheasant with his beloved bird dogs. On the first Saturday of November for many years, Russell and his three sons would travel back to Kansas to hunt for pheasant.

Russell’s wishes are to be cremated and his ashes to be placed on his 80 acres of land, located 4 miles southwest of Mannsville, Oklahoma. He enjoyed spending lots of time there with his family.
