Funeral services for Mr. Charles Dean Massey, 72, of Lone Grove, Okla., will be conducted today at 2:30 p.m. at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. David Gardner officiating. Interment will follow in Keller Cemetery under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson, Okla.

Charles Dean Massey was born on July 30, 1936, to the late Jack and Florence Mae (Wiley) Massey in Reagan, Okla. He departed this life on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, in Ardmore, Okla. Charles grew up in Reagan where he was a Millcreek Bullfrog graduate playing both basketball and baseball.

He was united in marriage to the former Patricia Ann Criswell on Dec. 23, 1955, in Ardmore. Going to work for Scribner-Bogart Grocery Distribution Co. of Oklahoma City for 10 years, they moved to Lone Grove where he continued his work as a Route Salesman for Mead Baking Co. which later became Rainbo Baking Co. He was known as “The Bread Man” by everyone who knew him eventually retiring in 1989, after 30 years.

As a young father he was a Little League coach and as a “Papa” was very involved in his grandchildren’s lives. They had been residents of Lone Grove for the past 50 years. He had served in the Okla. National Guard for 10 years, four active with six as a reserve. Charles was also a member of the Teamsters Local Union No. 886.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Florence Massey; son, Dean Massey; brother, Gary Massey; uncle, “Duck” Lawrence Massey; and granddaughter, Amy Rutledge.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia Massey of the home in Lone Grove; his daughters, Latricia Massey and Paula Rutledge and husband Steve, all of Lone Grove; son, Rick Massey and his wife Traci of Lone Grove; grandchildren, Richard Massey, Heather Rutledge, Eric Rutledge and Derick Massey.

Serving as pallbearers are Roger Johnson, Ron McCurtain, Brian Krohn, Brian Petree, John Flanagan and Kelly Smith. Honorary bearers are Eric Rutledge, Derick Massey, Frank Brooks, Richard Massey, Coy Morrell, Heather Rutledge and Clifford Tisdale.
