Graveside services for Vernon Arley Palmer, 85, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Rose Hill Cemetery with Dana Burchett officiating.
Born on June 6, 1924 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Frank Lee and Effie Mae McCauley Palmer and passed away on July 3, 2009 in the local hospital.
A lifetime resident of Ardmore, Palmer graduated from Mt. Washington High School. Vernon was a farmer who not only raised cattle but also produced great gardens. He enjoyed helping others and providing people with the food he grew. He will be missed by his family and all that knew him.
He is survived by his sister, June Gilliam of Ardmore, nieces, Angela Myers, Helen Meaders, Kenna Allen all of Ardmore, Linda Bolla of Petaluma, California, Phyllis Read of Sherman, Texas; nephews, Gary Rose of Burns, Oregon and Tracy Gilliam of Portland, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his maternal grand parents, Susan & Joe McCauley and paternal grand parents Sam and Emma Palmer; sister Doris Amaral and brother Hobert Palmer.
Honorary pallbearers will be: L.C. Johnson, Billy Myers, Terry Allen and Larry Allen.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
Services are under the direction of the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
