Services for Johnny Murrel Thacker, 57, of Marietta, Okla., will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lawrence Anderson officiating, assisted by Pastor Steve Mayhan.
Born Oct. 15, 1951, in Gainesville, Texas, the son of Murrel and Anna Lou Norris Thacker, Mr. Thacker passed away Aug. 4, 2009, in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta.
Mr. Thacker had been a resident of Marietta most of his life. He and Sally Rose Riley were married Nov. 7, 2005, in Gainesville. A 1969 graduate of Marietta High School, Mr. Thacker had been employed as a butcher at Scivally’s in Gainesville for the past 11 years.
He was a member of the Oklahoma Firefighters Association and had been a Marietta volunteer firefighter for more than 10 years, serving as co-captain many of those years. He also served as a Love County Police/Reserve Officer.
Mr. Thacker was an avid race car enthusiast both as a driver and collector of Dale Earnhardt memorabilia. He also enjoyed fishing and playing drums in the band “The 13th Hour.” Mr. Thacker was of the Methodist faith.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Robby Joe Roseman; and two nephews, Robbie Moseley and Jeremy Thacker.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Rose Thacker of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Thacker of Thackerville, Okla., Donnie and Mistee Thacker of the Shady Dale community and Juan and Maria Teresa Alvarez of Madill, Okla.; two daughters and son-in-law, Christy and David Doe of Fox Hollow, Marietta and Judy Talley, also of Marietta; brother, Charles Kent Thacker of Flower Mound, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Robert Swearingin of Gainesville; six grandchildren, Tyler, Clinton, Taylor, Brianna, Cheyenne and Victoria; and a nephew, Ryan Thacker of Aubrey, Texas.
Honorary bearers will be Charles Clark, Don Hilton, Ray Grice, Jack McGehee, Corky Elliott, Dr. Tom O’Connor, Roy Wickware, Ray Elliott and staff of Faith Hospice.
Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
