Funeral services for Helen Faye (Powell) Webber will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at the First Baptist Church of Davis with Brother Frank Duncan and Rev. Randy Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.

After a long and very productive life, Helen went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Doc and Paula on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at the age of 85. Helen was a “take charge, get-it-done” type of lady which explains her “life in her own words” as follows:

“I was born in Snyder, Okla., on May 14, 1924, to the late Bill and Rosa (Shaw) Powell. I married Thomas Wesley ‘Doc’ Webber on July 12, 1941, and moved to Mountain Park, Okla. We farmed and raised stock cattle until 1946, when we moved to Davis. We had four children, Gloria, Janelle, Santford and Paula. Doc bought out the Automatic Butane and Propane Co. in 1946. I was appointed Tag Agent for Davis in 1951. I kept seven sets of books. In 1967, I started Webber’s Dress Shop. I then started Webbers Insurance in 1969. In 1981, Janelle took over the insurance agency, and I sold the dress shop. In the meantime, Doc had gotten interested in the oil field business and started the Webber Production Company in 1971.

“In 1996, Doc passed away, and I was lost. Prior to Doc’s death, he became interested in exotic animals of which I still have 12 head of buffalo. I had been exceptionally busy with all the businesses and had been all over the world and now I had no one to talk to and discuss business, so I sold the biggest part of Webber Production Co., my house and the building where we did business for 34 years. In 2000, I built a new home with the Tag Agency in the front. As you can see, I have been a business person all of my life. Doc and I enjoyed this immensely.

“In 1961, the ladies from Sulphur wanted a B&PW Club organized in Davis. I became a charter member of the Davis B&PW Club and continued to be active. In 1966, the ladies of Wynnewood wanted a Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Davis. I became a charter member of this sorority. In both of these clubs, I held every office. I have held the office of the State President and Treasurer for the Oklahoma Tag Agent’s Association. I have been a member of the Murray County Economic Development Association and have served as Trustee since 1988. I have also been on the board of directors for the Murray County Industrial Association since 1999. I have been President of the Davis Chamber of Commerce three times.”
