Ardmore’s going back to Ada. We think.
The Tigers routed Altus 49-8 on Friday at Noble Stadium, and with Ada’s 42-13 thumping of Deer Creek, a potential rematch at Norris Field is in the making next week in the first round of the playoffs.
The matchup hinges on the OSSAA’s ruling on Class 5A No. 1 Guthrie Wednesday. The Bluejays may be forced to forfeit eight games due to using an ineligble player through weeks 1-8. Guthrie (9-0) was the district champion in District 5A-1, but as it stands the Bluejays cannot participate in postseason play.
If the ruling holds up, Carl Albert will be awarded the district title, Ada will bump up to the 2-spot and Deer Creek will travel to Duncan for the first round.
Ardmore beat Ada 28-0 in week 1.
Against Altus, Ardmore (6-4, 5-2) jumped out to a 28-2 halftime lead. Juaren McGee finished with three touchdowns — a 31-yard TD run to open the scoring, a 55-yard punt return and an 8-yard run — and quarterback Travis Galbreath was 14-of-17 passing for 162 yards and three touchdowns.
Ashdon Perry led Ardmore with 98 yards rushing on nine first-half carries, and the Tigers forced five turnovers on Senior Night.
