Berryhill ousts Plainview in physical battle

Berryhill’s Justin Tomlinson scored on a 1-yard run with 2:41 to go to lift the Chiefs over Plainview 22-14 in the Class 3A quarterfinals Friday at Indians Stadium.

With the game tied 14-14 in the fourth quarter, Plainview (9-4) fumbled at its own 21, setting up Berryhill for the game-winning score plus a two-point conversion. The Indians’ second turnover was critical in a physical game that saw the score tied at the end of each of the first three quarters.

Austin Carrera had a rushing touchdown in the first quarter and Blake Campo connected with Gary Heller for a 64-yard touchdown pass in the third.

Campo rushed 32 times for 105 yards to lead the Indians ground game. Carrera added 58 yards on 15 carries.

Adam Dolan led Berryhill with 134 yards rushing on 26 carries, including a 5-yard TD run in the first quarter. Trailing 14-7 in the third, Berryhill quarterback Zack Johnson found Aaron Dolan over the middle for a 27-yard touchdown pass.

Berryhill (12-1) moves on to play Anadarko in the 3A semifinals next week.

Woodland 46, Ringling 7

The Woodland Cougars were all but unstoppable Friday night as they rolled past the Ringling Blue Devils 46-7 in Class A quarterfinal action played at Rick Gandy Field.

Woodland (12-0), ranked No. 1 in Class A, rolled up 238 rushing yards and 290 yards through the air for 528 yards of total offense and limited the Blue Devils to just 162 offensive yards. The Cougars’ Willie Zackery rushed for 200 yards and had touchdown runs of 76, 46, 12 and 15
yards. Quarterback Patrick Bartlett threw for three touchdown passes.

Woodland scored on five of its seven first-half possessions to take a 34-7 halftime lead. The Cougars then hit paydirt on the first two second-half possessions, and let their stout defense do the rest.

Matthew Farris scored the lone Blue Devils touchdown on a 51-yard run in the first quarter. Farris finished with 19 carries for 112 yards.

 

Ringling finished its season with an 8-4 record.
