Southeastern Oklahoma State battled Texas A&M-Commerce for control of the Lone Star Conference North Division, but was beaten 27-17 Saturday afternoon at Paul Laird Field.
With the win, Texas-A&M Commerce clinched at least a share of the North Division title. Southeastern will need to beat East Central and have Southwestern Oklahoma State beat TAMU-C to earn a share of the North.
Trailing 10-7 at halftime, and 17-10 into the fourth quarter, SOSU quarterback Justin Pitrucha hit Daniel Nichols with a 37-yard TD pass to tie the game at 17-all with 13:31 to play.
On the Lions’ ensuing possession, Ahmed Abo-Mahmood kicked a 24-yard field goal for the 20-17 Commerce lead. SOSU (6-4, 3-1 LSC-N) was driving with under 2 minutes to go, but a Pitrucha fumble was recovered and returned 55 yards by Stephen DeGrate for the final points.
Pitrucha completed 25-of-52 for 300 yards, a touchdown and an interception. It was his fourth-consecutive 300-yard passing game.
Ty Hull of Tishomingo caught four balls for 24 yards, and Johnny Seals (Tishomingo) had two pass breakups and four tackles.
The Savage Storm and ECU will meet on Saturday, Nov. 7.
C. Oklahoma 42 East Central 25
ADA — The losing streak continued for East Central on Saturday.
Jason Palmer ran for 146 yards and two touchdowns while Brandon Noohi threw for 230 more and two TDs as the University of Central Oklahoma beat ECU 42-25 in the Tigers’ Homecoming game.
The Bronchos improved to 3-7, 1-3 in the Lone Star Conference-North while ECU fell to 0-10 and 0-4. The Tigers were limited to just three total rushing yards on 33 attempts.
Tiger quarterback Josh Phillips was 29-of-49 passing for 305 yards and three touchdowns. He connected on TDs of 32, 15 and 31 yards to John Gaines, Joe Joe Euwins and Phillip Pawelek, respectively.
ECU’s other touchdown came off a 2-yard run by Joshua Maldanado.
