The Ardmore High School cheerleading squad will compete for a state championship Saturday, beginning at 3 p.m. at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman.
According to Ardmore cheer coach, Terri Ogden-Oyler, the Tigers compete at the Class 5A level in the event. Squads competed at eight regional sites, and of the 40 squads entered, 21 squads advanced to the state championship.
“This is a huge event for the girls,” Ogden-Oyler said. “Last year they competed before over 7,000 people. It’s a great honor for us to be selected to compete for the Class 5A state championship.
Normally we have a squad of 20 girls, but we’ve had a number of injuries that have reduced our numbers. We lost two to ACL injuries and have one with a shoulder problem. Therefore, I opted to select a squad of 12 to go up tomorrow to represent Ardmore High School.”
The girls on the squad are: seniors Hailey Craighead and Mary Ogden; juniors Eryn Day, Cala Pickens and Beth Douglas; sophomore Katie Parish, Paris Littlechild and Jaiana Holmes; and freshmen Victoria Myers, Avery Sullivan, Hannah Fite and Elizabeth Gonzales.
“All the girls have been working extremely hard, and I expect them to do an outstanding job,” Ogden-Oyler said. “This is an excellent opportunity for the entire squad to showcase their talents.”
