The Davis girls improved to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in Lake Country Conference play with a 41-36 victory over the Plainview Indians Friday night at the Plainview Activity Center.
Both teams shot just 38 percent from the floor, but it was at the free-throw line where the Wolves claimed the win. Davis knocked down 15 of 27 (56 percent) to just 4 of 10 (40 percent) for the Indians.
“The girls did a good job tonight of attacking the bucket and drawing fouls,” Davis coach Sandy Hetherington said. This is the first game in quite some time that all the girls have been able to play together. We have had several out of the lineup recently for a variety of reasons. But we played well on defense and hit our free throws, and that made the difference.”
Davis got three buckets from Casha Birch and two from Kendal Rogers, all in the paint, in the opening frame and took a 13-6 lead to the second period. The Wolves added to their lead by one in the second and opened up a 21-13 halftime lead.
Plainview (9-7, 2-2) rallied with a strong showing in the third frame. The Indians outscored Davis 15-9 in the third to make a game of it. Senior Kenzie Hunt took the inbounds pass and went end to end for a layup at the buzzer that trimmed Davis’ lead to 30-28 heading to the fourth. Hunt led the way for the Indians with 12 points and eight rebounds.
A 7-1 run by the Wolves to start the fourth all but put the game away. Although they managed just two field goals, Davis hit seven from the line.
Birch had 19 points and six rebounds to pace the Wolves, and Rogers finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. Leah Tigert chipped in six points to go with her 11 boards.

Plainview 63, OKC Knights 29
In its second consecutive game without starting center Abbie Wallace, Plainview dominated the Oklahoma City Knights 63-29.
Wallace, who sprained her ankle against Lone Grove on Tuesday, missed Plainview’s loss to Davis on Friday and Saturday’s game. But the Indians recovered Saturday via the senior tandem of Kenzie Hunt and C.J. Hornback and the outside shooting of freshman Hayden Hunt.
Hornback had 10 of her 12 points in the first and second quarters, and the Hunt sisters split the game in half. Kenzie Hunt scored 14 of her 16 points in the first half, while Hayden Hunt scored all of her 16 after halftime.
Hayden Hunt had four of Plainview’s seven 3-pointers. Taryn Callender added seven points in the win.
“Our effort picked up after halftime,” Plainview coach Andy Bloodworth said. “Everyone got to contribute in one area or another. “C.J. had a great game and will play a big role with Abbie out, and Hayden’s been a big spark for us lately, not just in this game.”
