Take away a few long passes by Millwood and things were just about even on Thursday night at Plainview.
The Plainview defense held its own against the talented Millwood offense. The Indians sacked quarterback Kevonte Richardson on the Falcons’ first offensive series. Richardson completed just 1-of-5 passes on the drive — a 20-yard play to Texas commitment Josh Turner — before heating up later in the scrimmage.
Offensively, the Indians didn’t do much, but quarterback Blake Campo was impressive running the ball. Campo’s speed allowed him to make some big plays in the Indians’ offense.
Millwood got it going on its second possession, as Richardson found Turner for a 40-yard touchdown. A little later, Richardson hooked up with Brandon Swindall for a 50-yard gain, but Plainview didn’t give up any points.
Swindall made a big play on the Falcons’ third possession, grabbing a ball from the Plainview secondary and taking it in for a long score.
Plainview’s offense was able to move the ball, but never found the end zone. The Indians turned the ball over twice.
After three series each, both teams took a series at the 10-yard line and had four plays to punch it in. The Falcons scored on their third play, while the Indians once again went scoreless.
The Indians will play next Thursday night in the Super Scrimmage at Ardmore High School’s Noble Stadium.
Dickson coach Mitchell Crittenden was pleased with his team’s scrimmage against Marietta and Rush Springs.
Crittenden said his team made some mistakes, but everything was correctable.
“It went well. We got a look at everybody and I think overall all of the coaches were pretty pleased with what we saw,” Crittenden said. “I thought we had too many missed tackles, we missed some blocks, but we didn’t have any glaring deficiencies.”
