Oklahoma City, OK —

It was a rough weekend for the Ardmore Tigers tennis team. The good news was all six players made this weekend’s Class 4A state tournament at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center, but the bad news was none of them placed.

Two Ardmore entries, No. 1 singles player Tim Argo and No. 2 doubles team members Elliott Thompson and Patrick McSweeney, won at least one match.

Argo opened with a win over Oklahoma City Western Heights (6-1, 6-0), but then lost to thrid-seeded McAlester (6-0, 6-3) and Bixby (6-7, 6-2, 6-4).

Thompson and McSweeney, after losing to second-seeded Shawnee, defeated Tulsa Edison (6-2, 6-3). But then they lost to Midwest City Carl Albert (6-1, 6-2) to get eliminated from state.

At No. 2 singles, Luke Glazener lost to Skiatook (6-1, 6-0) and Harrah (6-1, 6-0).

Cody Keeton and Franco Guadarrama, playing No. 1 doubles, fell twice — to third-seed, and eventual state champion, Deer Creek-Edmond (6-2, 6-1) and to McAlester (7-6, 6-3).

“We had some bad luck (in the state-tournament drawing),” Ardmore coach Becky Dickinson said. “We had some tough matches right off the bat. We played hard, and it was were just happy we got all our kids to state. Things just didn’t go our way.”
