South-central Oklahoma may have a gang of players make All-State.
The Region 5 Small and Middle teams were released Thursday, with six area players on the Small team (Classes B-2A) and four on the Middle team (Classes 3A-4A).
By making the Region 5 teams, the seniors are candidates for the All-State team, which will be voted on Saturday by the Oklahoma Fastpitch Coaches Association. The All-State teams could be released Monday.
Ringling led the area with three players selected. Pitcher Mindy McElroy, catcher Shelby Gandy and outfielder Logan Reid were all picked for the Small team. Joining them were Davis’ Skye Griffin (outfielder) and Katie Collete (infielder), and Healdton catcher Marla Scott.
Healdton coach Joel Bradberry was selected as the Region 5 West Coach of the Year after guiding the Bulldogs to a 2A state championship.
On the Region 5 Middle team, Lone Grove is represented by catcher Madison McMurtrey and second baseman Abby Barton.
Outfielder Sarah Arkeketa of Dickson and shortstop Kristen Galles of Plainview rounded out the Middle selections.
