Ardmore, OK —

Ardmore High School senior baseball player Brayden Brumley has slugging it out this summer for Oklahoma Baseball.

Brumley has been playing for Oklahoma Baseball, based in Oklahoma City, for eight years. This summer he is playing in the leagues toughest division. He routinely faces pitchers throwing in the 90s, but he is still batting .415 and leading his team to victory.

Two weeks ago Brumley’s team won a tournament at Kansas State University. He also won most valuable player, was named to the all tournament team and was the only slugger to hit a home run with a wooden bat.

“At first I was kind of in shock, but it was a relief for all the work I’ve done,” Brumley said.
Brumley said he is a utility player, who can play nearly every position, but he prefers the outfield.

“You get a lot more balls out there,” he said.

A lot of big plays is what he is looking for. He said college scouts routinely watch the select summer league tournaments to find that next great player.

“My main goal this summer is to go out and get exposure,” Brumley said.
He said he plans to play baseball in college, but he does not yet know where he will go.

“I’m kind of debating between junior college and division one,” he said. “I kind of see myself going to a junior college.”

There are 12 players on Brumley’s team. Most come from the Oklahoma City and Tulsa areas. Six will be high school seniors and six have already graduated from high school. Of the six that have graduated, all have signed on to play baseball at a college. Based on his team’s statistics it looks like he has a good chance at following his dream.

He said he will continue to work hard through the winter in preparation for the most important season of his life.

Oklahoma Baseball is 28-3 with two tournaments left in the summer season. They play this weekend at Wichita State University and next weekend at Oklahoma State University.
