It won’t be an easy start for Fox, who draws old district rival Ryan in week 1.
Ryan beat Fox 24-0 last season, but the Cowboys start this year in Class C after going 12-1 in Class B in 2009. The Cowboys handed the Foxes one of only three losses last season.
“Ryan is well-coached, fundamentally sound,” said Fox coach Brent Phelps. “If we go out and execute and do the things we know we’re capable of doing, all the little things will fall into place to be successful.”
Fox returns much of its 7-3 squad from last season, including quarterback Chris Spigner, who is OK to play after a car accident this summer involving four Fox players. Spigner, Ryan Garza and Bryan Garza have been cleared but Ryan Clour remains out.
“Does it affect us a little bit? Yeah,” Phelps said. “But anything like that will happen and it’s one of the things you have to get through.”
Fox opens the season ranked 10th in Class B, while Ryan is eighth in Class C.
