The venue was different for KICM 97.7 Football Saturday, but the winner was just the same.

With a massive black-and-silver clad fan base and a routine featuring front flips and dance-offs, Lone Grove took home the overall performance title for the eighth year in a row. This year’s festivities took place on a sweltering Saturday at Ardmore’s Noble Stadium, the site of Thursday’s Super Scrimmage featuring Ardmore, Plainview, Sulphur, Durant and Lone Grove.

“It was the best decision to move it to Noble Stadium,” KICM general manager Bill Countryman said of Football Saturday, which was at Walker Stadium in 2009. “... Thanks to Ardmore High School for letting us use this facility.”

This year’s Football Saturday featured numerous business vendors, autographs from former Oklahoma defensive end Rufus Alexander and a rock climbing wall. Schools were judged by a representative from each school. Lone Grove graded first in two events (Best Dance Performance, Best Color Guard Peformance) and earned 20 additional points in the Beef Bowl, won by Jason Reynolds. The senior polished off a 40-ounce steak faster than competitors from Ardmore, Dickson, Fox, Sulphur and Plainview.

Each school received a check for $300 per category win. Dickson won Best Band, Plainview won Best Football Team Performance and Best Cheer Performance and Sulphur won Best Use of Theme in Performance.

Plainview and Dickson finished second and third, respectively, in the overall standings.

“The kids take pride in this event,” Lone Grove coach and athletic director Kenny Ridley said. “A lot of credit goes to cheerleading sponsor Yvonne Barron. It’s a testament to the type of kids we have and the support of the Lone Grove program. This event signifies that.”
