Plainview put nine players in the scoring column with three in double figures as it rolled to a 56-45 win over the Davis Wolves in a Lake Country Conference matchup Friday night at the Plainview Activity Center.
Davis (11-5, 3-2 LCC), took a 14-11 lead to the second period, but in the second the Indians knocked down three 3-pointers and outscored the Wolves 15-8 to take a 26-22 lead to intermission.
Plainview finished with just 10 turnovers compared to 22 miscues by Davis.
“I was pleased with the way we took care of the basketball tonight,” Plainview coach Jeremy Stewart said. “We did not have a lot of turnovers, and in the fourth when we needed to kill off some clock, we handled their pressure defense well.”
With a minute remaining in the third period, the Indians had their biggest lead at 41-29. At that point, the Wolves started their comeback. Davis scored the final four points in the third, and heading to the fourth, the Indians’ lead was down to eight points at 41-33.
An 8-0 run by the Wolves to start the fourth knotted the game at 41-all. An offensive rebound and putback by Davis’ Alec Hetherington with an added free throw tied the game with 6:10 remaining.
Plainview (11-5, 4-0) then finished the game with a strong 15-4 run of its own to pull away for the win.
“We did not shoot the ball very well tonight,” Davis coach David Griffin said. “A lot of that had to do with the excellent defense that Plainview played on us. We had our chances, but we let them get away in the fourth.”
Deric Shelton had 15 points to lead the Indians in scoring. Dalton Morales and Brian Greisman finished with 10 points each. Morales added eight boards.
Chance Griffin paced the Wolves with 15 points. Cole Weber had 12 points and seven rebounds, and Hetherington chipped in 10 points.
