Chad Ramer knows all about putting on a good show. He’s been doing it since he was a teen.

The show will go on for Ramer and the Hereford Heaven Stampede 63rd Annual Rodeo tonight and Saturday at the Murray County Fairgrounds in Sulphur.

Ramer, a Sulphur native, took over the Hereford Heaven production two years ago as part of his Rocking R Rodeo Company. It’s been a long time coming since 1994, when Ramer, now 33, started his company as a 17-year-old high school senior.

“I used to enter into the team rodeos,” Ramer said. “But I kinda quit once I started putting on rodeos.”

The 63rd running will include eight main events such as mutton busting, bull riding, calf roping, ladies breakaway, senior and junior barrel racing, team roping and ranch broncs. Ramer said he’s focusing on youth rodeo even more now, with children’s events including a calf scramble, mutton busting and a critter chase for kids 6 and under.

The Rodeo Street Parade will also march through downtown Sulphur, Saturday at 5 p.m.

Books close at 7:30 each day with the rodeo starting at 8.
