Plainview placed fourth as a team with eight place finishers and Ardmore had seven placers with a shorthanded squad at the Midwestern Conference Tournament Friday and Saturday.
Ardmore heavyweight Evan McGee continued his unbeaten run with a 3-0 tournament, scoring falls in his first two matches before defeating Curtis Hurst of Harrah 4-2 in the final. Cameron Sralla was second for the Tigers at 195 pounds, winning by fall and a 5-4 decision before a 4-0 loss in the final.
Madill and Sulphur also had individual champions in Luke Chapman (152) and Ike Flowers (113). Madill’s Chapman went 4-0 and Flowers was 3-0 en route to individual honors.
Harrah won the team title with 226 points, followed by McLoud (132), Durant (128) and Plainview (127). Ardmore was seventh with 97.5 points.
“We wrestled well even wrestling shorthanded,” Ardmore coach Richard Dabbs said. “I thought Cameron Sralla and Evan McGee had good tournaments. McGee was the best upper weight in the tournament, in my opinion, and Cameron has made great strides sense Chirstmas break.”
With wrestlers in only eight weight classes, Ardmore placed seven. Jeremiah Pearce placed third at 152 pounds for Ardmore, scoring three major decisions and a technical fall in four wins, and Sam Edwards (220) and Aron Yelton (126) were each fourth in their respective weight classes. Martin Valdez was fifth at 220 and Jullian Withers was sixth at 182.
“We hope to get most of the injured wrestlers back this week,” Dabbs said. “Our focus now is on getting everyone in position to qualify for the state tournament.”
Plainview received second-place finishers from Stephen West at 113 pounds and Cade Wheelwright (126). Brent Davis was fourth at 152, giving south-central Oklahoma three of the top four placers in that weight class along with Chapman and Pearce.
Also for Plainview, Tyler Lawrence (106) and Preston McCathern (145) were each fourth, Landon Good (182) and Cameron Hanan (195) were each fifth, and Lane Stahlbusch was sixth at 132.
Madill’s Levi Shelby was runner-up at 138 pounds, and Shelby Salyer (182) and Sotero Trevino (285) each placed third. Madill was sixth as a team with 104.5 points and Sulphur was 13th with 29.
