Lone Grove, Ringling each sending two
to June games
And the All-State honors go to … seven players from south-central Oklahoma.
Lone Grove and Ringling each had two seniors named to the Oklahoma Fastpitch Coaches Association All-State teams. Coaches voted from a pool of players recently named to All-Region teams to form the rosters for the June 12 All-State games at the University of Oklahoma.
Abby Barton and Madison McMurtrey of Lone Grove made the Middle West All-State team, along with Dickson’s Sarah Arkeketa. Ringling placed Shelby Gandy and Mindy McElroy on the Small West team, where they join Healdton’s Marla Scott and Davis’ Skye Griffin.
Healdton coach Joel Bradberry, the Region 5 small-school coach of the year, will coach the Small West team. He led the Bulldogs to the state Class 2A championship.
Barton’s .541 batting average this season is a school record. She also stole 28 bases in 29 attempts, scored 41 runs and batted in 11 this season. McMurtrey set a school record in the RBI department with 38 and scored 29 runs.
They guided Lone Grove to a district championship.
Arkeketa hit .506 with 10 RBI and 40 hits this year.
Scott helped guide Healdton to the 2A championship with 21 hits and 17 RBI. The catcher for undefeated pitcher Maci-Brooke Lambert hit .273 this season.
McElroy pitched Ringling back to the state 2A tournament with a 28-3 record. She had a 0.32 ERA and threw six no-hitters and 16 shutouts. Offensively, she was a .402 batter with two home runs and 22 RBI.
Her battery mate, Gandy, had 15 RBI and batted .274 for the Blue Devils, who won the state title last year.
Griffin finished her only season at Davis with a .402 hitting average and five doubles.
The All-State team was announced three days after the All-Region selections were released.
