The 17-year-old student accused of attacking an 18-year-old female student with a knife on Thackerville High School’s first day of the school year has been identified.

District Attorney Craig Ladd said his office has reviewed the case and he anticipates a charge of assault and battery with a deadly weapon will be filed against Jesse Rains, 17, today.

“He will be charged as a youthful offender,” Ladd said.

Police responded to the stabbing shortly after classes were dismissed Monday.

Police Chief Brandon Stockard said Monday Rain stabbed the victim in the neck with what he described as a “kitchen knife.” The knife was recovered by the police.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and later released.

Police have not released a possible motive for the attack.
