In Oklahoma, there are two spectator sports that stand out above all others — football and storm spotting. With spring right around the corner, local emergency agencies are gearing up for another season of severe weather and the public is invited to participate.
Saturday, the Emergency Management Agencies of Ardmore, Davis, Carter, Love, Murray and Garvin County will sponsor a Severe Weather Awareness/Disaster Preparedness Day with the Ardmore Chamber of Commerce.
The function will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ardmore Convention Center and is free to the public. Information and assistance will be provided to any individual wanting to develop personal disaster plans, have their weather radio programming checked, or to receive information on volunteering and to better prepare for disasters and emergencies.
The main focus of the day will be the area’s only storm spotter training session, which will begin at 1:30 p.m. The National Weather Service Norman Forecast Office will present the session. Anyone interested in learning how to identify, report and know general safety concerning hazardous weather is welcome to attend.
For more information, contact Amber Wilson, Ardmore Emergency Management at (580) 223-4453 or Paul Tucker, Carter County Emergency Management, (580) 223-7937.
