The Ardmore Police Department is warning senior citizens to beware of telephone callers claiming to be Social Security representatives.

Cpl. Jason Qualls, APD Public Information Officer said, “The APD has begun to receive calls for service, from senior citizens, pertaining to a possible fraud and/or identity theft.”

Qualls said the senior citizens have received telephone calls from persons posing as Social  Security representatives demanding personal information such as their personal Social Security number, date of birth, and bank account numbers.

“The caller informs the citizen if they do not comply with the request, they could possible stop receiving Social Security benefits,” Qualls said.

Senior citizens receiving such calls should not be fooled into giving out personal information.

“If you receive such a call, what you need to tell the caller is that you will contact the local Social Security office personally and provide a local representative with any information required,” Qualls said.
