Current Jefferson County Sheriff Michael Bryant defeated Ringling Police Chief Jessie Aden, 575 to 477, in a runoff election Tuesday to be the Democratic candidate for county sheriff.
Bryant will face Jerry Wallace, a Waurika Republican, and Nathan Bardin Jr., a Waurika independent, in the November general election.
Bryant received 47 percent of the vote in the July primary. Aden followed with 28 percent. The runoff election was necessary since none of the Democratic primary candidates received more than 50 percent of the vote.
Davis voters also approved a one-cent sales tax to build a new water treatment plant. More than 90 percent of the voters supported the measure.
A new plant is necessary if the town is going to meet more stringent water quality standards. Davis City Manager Sandra Webb told The Davis News that it was impractical to upgrade the existing plant to meet the new federal requirements. The new plant is estimated to cost between $5.5 and $6 million.
The sales tax is expected to bring in approximately $270,000 a year.
