CARNEGIE — Darrell Schmidt, 69, of Carnegie, Okla., passed away Friday, February 10, 2012. He was born June 8, 1942, to Alfred J. and Melba Rae (Skinner) Schmidt in Carnegie, Okla.
Darrell was a 1960 Carnegie High School graduate. He received a scholarship in Industrial Arts, at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Darrell married his best friend and the love of his life, Phyllis Clark, October 20, 1962, in Anadarko, Okla. He lived in Ardmore, Okla., from 1979-1989 and moved back to Carnegie where he farmed south of town. Darrell enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a history buff and could fix anything. His favorite college football team was the Oklahoma Sooners. Darrell was a kind and loving person. He adored his children and grandchildren. He is missed greatly by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Schmidt of the home; one daughter, Kimberly Thompson and husband, James, Ardmore, Okla.; one son, Jay Schmidt, Carnegie, Okla.; four grandchildren, Camille Thompson, Stillwater, Okla., Chloe’ Thompson, Ardmore, Okla., Jayson Schmidt, Carnegie, Okla., and Alle Schmidt, Ardmore, Okla.; two sisters, Linda Sharry and husband, Danny, Eakly, Okla., and Brenda Moore and husband, Bobby, Carnegie, Okla.; double first cousin, Dennis Skinner, Carnegie, Okla.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend and running buddy, Jim Gage, Carnegie, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Melba Schmidt.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Carnegie with the Rev. Chip Perkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Carnegie Cemetery, under the direction of Ray & Martha’s Funeral Home, Carnegie.
