Funeral services for James Lamar McGlaughn, 75, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2012, at CrystalRock Cathedral, officiated by the Reverend Walt Spradling. Interment, with Military Honors and Masonic Rites, will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
A time of visitation and support for the family and friends will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
The son of the late William J. and Jessie B. Lett McGlaughn, James was born January 30, 1937, in Etowah County, Alabama. He and the former DeLois “Dee” Austin were married on December 27, 1988, at Dallas, Texas, and they shared 23 years together. James passed from this life on February 15, 2012, in a Madill nursing facility.
James served his country for 20 years, which began in October of 1954. He served in the Air Force, Navy, and during the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Army and at the Pentagon as a Chief Warrant Officer W-2. While serving in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star.
After retiring from the Pentagon, James worked at Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas, for 22 years. He and Dee, who also worked for Texas Instruments, retired together in 1998 and built their retirement home at Lake Texoma, Okla.
James was a member of the Assemblies of God, Masonic Lodge #287 AF&AM, the American Legion and the Gideons. He was song leader at his church in Kingston, Oklahoma, where he enjoyed doing duets with his wife there and around the area as well.
Friends loved his song leading and told him so quite often.
He and Dee did lots of traveling following their retirement. James loved people and made friends wherever they went. Folks seemed to be drawn to him by his friendliness and kindness. James loved helping those who were in need and did so quite often.
Surviving his home going is his wife and soulmate, Dee of the home; eight children, Hursel McGlaughn, Sharon Pugh, Karen Hosokawa, James McGlaughn, Teresa Mitchell, Debbie Cannon, Warren Ogletree and Bridgette Graham; a brother, John McGlaughn; sister, Myron Thompson, 19 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. James will be sorely missed by his family and a host of good friends.
Serving as bearers will be Jason and Jeremy Cannon, Blake McGlaughn, Eddie Couch, Matt Johnson and Patrick Hosokawa. Honorary bearers include Marvin Cox, Darrell Lawyer, Tommy Alexander, Bradley Gaither and Don Nabors.
Services have been placed in the care of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory; memorial condolences may be made online at www.hdouglasfuneralhome.com.
