The Ardmore Tourism Authority announced Friday that it awarded a contract for the expansion of the Ardmore Convention Center at its July 1 meeting.

The expansion will add 6,800 square feet to the center and connect to the new Holiday Inn that is now under construction. The addition will include two conference rooms similar to the existing conference space, an office and small conference room, an executive boardroom with state-of-the-art technology, a catering kitchen and storage area.

The contractor is Kornhaas Construction, Inc. of Ardmore, and construction is slated to begin later this summer. The expansion of the center will incorporate design elements consistent with the original facility.

“The Ardmore Convention Center has far exceeded the estimates in the original feasible study, hosting  226 events  in 2009,” ATA Vice President Mita Bates said. “Many of these events involved multiple days with use totaling 561 meetings/functions. In the marketing of the Convention Center, we have been challenged to attract groups that require hotel accommodations adjoining the facility.

“There have also been numerous occasions when we have not had enough conference space available to accommodate groups. This expansion will significantly enhance our ability to attract larger conferences and events.”

“This project represents the commitment of the Holiday Inn and its owners, Goff and Associates, to a win-win situation that will result in the project moving smoothly throughout construction,” ATA President and CEO Wes Stucky said.

“In addition, we are pleased that a local contractor submitted the low bid and was awarded the contract. Based upon their history and our experiences with them, we are confident they will do an excellent job.”
The estimated completion for the expansion is the summer of 2011.
