Ardmore secured seven wins, including a key fall at 170 pounds by Tyler Dickson to take down Noble 39-33 Thursday on Senior Night.
The Tigers wrestled a bit shorthanded again due to junior high state, which is today and Saturday, but secured five outright wins and two forfeits. With both teams battling injuries, every point was crucial.
Wrestling up a weight class, Dickson’s pin was key for the Tigers’ victory.
“Dickson came through with a big fall,” Ardmore coach Richard Dabbs said. “If we didn’t win that match we lose the dual.”
Aron Yelton (126 pounds) and Seth Langford (132) each were winners in their respective divisions, as were Tanner Love (138) and Julian Withers (182). Sam Edwards (220) and Evan McGee each received forfeits.
Dabbs said he was impressed with the efforts of freshmen Lamir Archibald (106) and Daxton Wrenn (145) who normally wrestle at the junior-high level, adding that Wrenn put up a good fight against last week’s conference champion.
The Tigers just ended a week of two-a-day practices.
“I wasn’t disappointed with the effort. I know what they’ve been through the last four mornings,” Dabbs said. “We’ll practice (today), then they’ll have Saturday and Sunday.
“We have to get ready for the next two weeks. We have our sights set on regionals and the state tournament.”
