The City of Ardmore issued building permits for a variety of construction projects in June that had an estimated construction cost of $5,862,099.50, which is the highest total for any month this year.
The largest project is a $2.1 million renovation of the Big Five Apartments at 1212 6th Ave. N.E. Big Five Carter County Coordinator Harold Roberts said all 43 apartments in the complex will be renovated. As a part of the project, the office and laundry room will be remodeled and the playground will be redone.
Roberts said the new units will be totally electric and energy efficient.
Local builders secured building permits for 11 homes with a total value of $2,111,209 during the month. The home values ranged from $35,000 to $490,000. During the previous month, home builders bought permits to build six new homes, which had a total value of $1.2 million.
“The housing market has just been great,” said Nick Diaz, City of Ardmore building official.
Property owners secured permits for five home-renovation projects in June. Permits were issued for a number of other projects, including one swimming pool, seven sprinkler systems, two carports, two mobile homes and seven fences.
The city issued permits to three sign companies for projects totally $465,295.50. A permit also was issued for a $634,000 renovation project to add a biotech lab at the Southern Oklahoma Technology Center.
With half of the year completed, the city has issued permits for construction projects with a total estimated value of $20,736,853.46. Permits for projects valued at more than $86.3 million were issued in 2008.
