Friendship between women moves into bizarre stage
DEAR ABBY: “Dana” has been my best friend since 1995. We did so many things together, until she had gastric bypass surgery three years ago. Mind you, Dana was never fat. She may have been overweight, but she was never morbidly obese. She never participated in any of the fun sports I did, such as mud/obstacle course runs or fun 5Ks. Her lack of participation wasn’t due to her weight; she just said it “wasn’t for her.”
Springtime is a great time for landscaping
Last week it was almost too hot and windy to work outside without following the shade, and then Mother Nature threw in some storms and hail to liven things up since it is Oklahoma. This week it’s so cold, wet, and windy that we want to sit in front of the fireplace with a cup of hot tea and look at the new weeds the rains brought. While we have plenty of at-home time since it’s finally raining, it’s a good time to think about our landscapes and do some planning for when we can get outside. This year may be the opportunity to work on making our yards and our landscapes a more welcoming, beautiful place to enjoy and appreciate nature. UCO Foundation awards scholarship to Ardmore graduate
The University of Central Oklahoma Foundation recently awarded Sierra Long the ARL/DNA Solutions Endowed Scholarship at its annual Presidential Partners Awards Luncheon. Long is a first-year graduate student majoring in forensic science - chemistry through the Jackson College of Graduate Studies.
ANB scholarship recipients announced
The American Nation Bank Scholarship program began in 1995 in order to give back to the communities they serve and help area students achieve their dreams of higher education. The ANB Scholarship is a one year, $1,000 scholarship of which they have now awarded $315,000 in scholarships. In 2016, ANB initiated their “Pays for A’s” program where students from grade 6 through grade 12 can be paid for each “A” on their report card. In addition to being paid for each “A”, all grade 12 students who participated in the “Pays for A’s” program during grade 12 are eligible for a random drawing for a $1,000 “Pays for A’s” scholarship.

Jon Batiste kicks off Grammy Museum’s educational series
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jon Batiste is still putting in some Grammy work: The multi-talented performer will kick off a series geared toward public and educational programs in New York City next month. The Grammy Museum announced Thursday that Batiste will perform during a series titled “A New York Evening with Jon Batiste.” He’ll hit the stage on June 17 at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.
