With the beginning of a new school year, many after school extracurricular activities for students are coming back for the fall. At The Brass Ring Center for the Performing Arts, this is an extra special year because it will mark the 20th year of Broadway Kids. Over 110 students ages kindergarten through 12th grade from schools all across the area will be participating in this year’s set of classes.
DEAR ABBY: My husband, “Alex,” and I are close friends with another couple who live out of state. During a virtual happy hour, our friend “Darlene” advised us that her brother “Roy” is moving to our area, and she suggested we become friends. She assumed my husband likes Roy. When you struggle with depression, anxiety or having suicidal thoughts, it can be hard to talk about your thoughts or feelings in times of crisis. There are fears around being misunderstood, difficulties expressing what you’re feelin, or maybe you just don’t want to feel judged.
Some new words are unforgettable, needing little or no explanation. They intuitively and metaphorically illuminate the previously undefined. (Who heard of “crowdfunding” and “selfies” 10 years ago?) As we enter a new political season, however, we keep using the same stale, old terms to describe our hyper-partisan, social media political reality, and it’s boooring. Time to freshen things up.
