Record crowd turns out for Eggtravaganza: 1,714 counted at annual Parks and Rec event

Records have been shattered for the 19th Annual Ardmore Parks and Rec Easter Eggstravaganza.

Parks and Rec Director Teresa Ervin said 1,714 people were counted walking into the event at Regional Park Thursday evening. There were also 75 taking part in the Easter Egg Hike, which was the most in its three years.

Earlier in the evening, Ervin said she felt there was a chance of having a big crowd given the level of response the office had received earlier in the day. The gates opened at 7 p.m., with a line stretching along the outfield fence. By 7:45 p.m., 1,000 people had entered with the line still stretching several hundred yards with parking spaces at a premium.

Because of the wind, Ervin said there had been some adjustments.

“We had a 20-foot slide, and I made the call not to put it up tonight with the wind,” she said. “We have a train slide, bounce house and we have an obstacle course. We also have an axe throwing, so that is plenty.”

There was also face painting and The Clubhouse with its Plushies. Kids were also able to touch-a-truck as vehicles from Ardmore’s first responders to Ardmore City Schools were lined up along the infield.

“We are going to have a great night,” she said. “We have 30.000 eggs, and I think I have personally touched every one of them.”

Ervin said it would not have been possible without the help of volunteers. Ardmore High School and Middle School students were on-site from organizations such as Honor Society and FCLA. Ervin said the park’s staff was limited to eight.

“It is so much easier and better organized when we can get a lot of folks out here to help us,” Ervin said. “I think those guys come out and have just as much fun as the egg hunters when they all get together.”
