Minnie Jewell Ammons, of Wilson, departed this life on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Mercy Love County Hospital of Marietta at the age of 91 years, 10 months, and 4 days. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Wilson with Rev. Mark Fuller officiating. Interment will follow in the Hewitt Cemetery in Wilson. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.
Jewell was born on January 22, 1931, in Faxon, Okla., to the late Mr. Charlie Madison McClung and Mrs. Stella (Elmore) McClung.
She was raised and grew up in Temple, Okla. Jewell was united in marriage to Mr. Raymond Franklin “Boomer” Ammons on December 1, 1950, in Temple. They then moved to North Carolina and then to Wichita Falls. After three years they moved to Wilson in 1959. Boomer became employed with Sutherlands Well Service. Jewell enjoyed working in the local convenient stores and loved visiting with people. She was a dedicated homemaker and an excellent seamstress and took pride in every job. Boomer and Jewell retired and moved to the Waurika Lake for a few years, after Boomers passing she moved back to Wilson.
Jewell is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Stella (Elmore) McClung, husband, Raymond Franklin “Boomer” Ammons on April 26, 2001; siblings, Stella Roberts, Billie Powell, J Lee McClung, Charles Madison McClung, Jr., great-grandson, Bryce Rutherford; great-granddaughter, Jessica Miller; and Daughter-inlaw, Jeanette Ammons.
She is survived by her children, Dottie Stearns and husband Ronnie of Wilson, Nancy Quaid and husband Jimmy of Jefferson, TX, Charlie Ammons of Lone Grove; sister, Eula Nadine Gibson of Temple; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 14 great-greatgrandchildren, three of whom are named after her; special daughter, Jenette Dugger of Lone Grove; many extended relatives in North and South Carolina and a host of friends.
Serving as Casket Bearers will be her grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Benton Goodson, Scott Sutherland and Boyd Salsbury.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Wilson.
