Beau Bearden/The Ardmoreite
With another year in the books, it’s time to find out who earned recognition on the 2024 All-Ardmoreite softball team.
Several area high school squads found success, as Lone Grove, Plainview, Turner, Healdton and Wilson tallied 20 or more wins. However, just one team advanced to the state tournament as the Lady Horns clinched their third title in four years with a 41-2 overall record.
So with that in mind, the first team includes Lone Grove’s Kadence Lampkin, KJ Tudor, Braylee Spence, Hunter Gardner, Brice Wade and Jesse Shuman; Plainview’s Emma Freeman, Kamrey Martin and Landree Upshaw along with Dickson’s Cailey Fryar, Wilson’s Mary Bates, Turner’s Chloe Scarbrough, Healdton’s Piper Lawson and Ringling’s Emma Skinner.
Now for a breakdown of each position, starting with the trio of pitchers who put up impressive numbers.
Spence, a sophomore, led the group with a 22-1 record, highlighted by 278 strikeouts and a .290 ERA as she allowed just six earned runs.
Meanwhile, Lawson stepped up during her junior campaign to be selected as the District 2A-7 Pitcher of the Year. She went 23-11 with a 1.33 ERA and 147 strikeouts in addition to hitting .366 with 20 RBIs.
Scarbrough rounds out the group of aces as the senior finished 25-9 with a 1.90 ERA in 176 innings.
At catcher, Tudor made an impact during her senior campaign as she hit .342 with 23 RBIs along with a .997 fielding percentage to be named to the Oklahoma Fastpitch Coaches Association’s All-State Middle West team.
Fryar was a force for the Lady Comets with a .472 average, highlighted by 22 RBIs and two homers. The senior also tallied a .932 fielding percentage and was named to the All-Region 7 Middle West team.
Switching gears to the infielders, Gardner set a pair of school records as a sophomore with 65 runs scored and 25 doubles en route to a .533 average.
Lampkin, also an All-State honoree, hit .432 with 27 RBIs, two homers and seven doubles during her senior year.
Bates earned OFCA All-State Small West honors along with being named the No. 1 overall athlete in Region 7. The senior finished with a .454 average, highlighted by 22 RBIs, two homers, six doubles, five triples and a .975 fielding percentage.
Martin, a sophomore, shined for the Lady Indians with a .453 average, including 43 RBIs and one homer.
Freeman finished with a .440 average, highlighted by 20 RBIs, 12 stolen bases and she only struck out four times all season. The senior was also selected to the All-Region 7 Middle West team.
Skinner, a senior, hit .506 with 38 RBIs, three homers along with a .560 on-base percentage and 1.449 on-base plus slugging percentage.
A trio rounds out the first-team honorees, as Wade was Lone Grove’s designated player with a .438 average, 49 RBIs and eight homers.
Upshaw tallied a .415 average, 58 RBIs and five homers. The sophomore also tallied 201 strikeouts in the circle for the Lady Indians.
