Arlie Paul Blount, 80, of Ardmore, OK passed away on May 23, 2022 at Integris Baptist Medical in Oklahoma City, OK. His journey in life began in Ardmore, OK on May 5, 1942, one of 13 children born to Rosemary (Heron) and Leslie Arlie Blount.
Arlie was a lifelong area resident and a 1960 graduate of Ardmore High School. On June 20, 1961, he joined the United States Navy, enlisting during the Vietnam War. Arlie was stationed on the USS Hamner where he was an aviation electronic technician and he flew drones (remote controlled helicopters). He was honorably discharged and then went on to serve in the Oklahoma National Guard. He went to work for Michelin in maintenance where he taught basic industrial electricity and electronics to other employees. He retired after 26 years of service.
Arlie married his bride of 46 years, Peggy Fran Watkins on September 19, 1975 in Gainesville, TX. He was a Deacon of the Northwest Baptist Church in Ardmore. Arlie enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and fishing. He had many activities that brought him joy, but perhaps the thing he loved the most was spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren.
Those left to carry on his memory are his wife, Peggy Blount of the home; sons, Darwin Blount and wife Jennifer of Ardmore and Kevin Blount and wife Amy of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Tammy Morgan and husband James of Lone Grove, OK; brothers, James Robert Blount of Virginia Beach, VA, Robert Edward Blount and wife Donna of Ardmore, Lee Lafayette Blount and wife Audrey of Ardmore, and Kevin Mark Blount and wife Cheryl of Ardmore; sisters, Deborah Berryhill of Ardmore, Ida Nell Maxwell and husband Steve of Shawnee, OK, and Martha Malone of Midwest City, OK; brother-in-law, Robert Moore of Lawton, OK; sister-in-law, Pauline Blount of Lone Grove; grandchildren, Eric Morgan and Michelle of Denton, TX, Dylan Morgan and wife Annie of Dickson, OK, Victoria McCall of Ardmore, Tanner Riley of Ardmore, and Rachel Taylor and husband Jimmy of Melbourne, FL; and great-grandchildren, Hazel Mae Morgan of Dickson, Colton, Mason, and Hudson Taylor of Melbourne.
In addition to his parents, Arlie was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Ann Ashley and husband Hershel, Lynnette Moore, Mary Jean Blount, and Ida Lynn Blount; brother, Wesley Blount; brother-in-law, Mike Berryhill; and sister-in-law, Diana Blount.
Services to celebrate Arlie’s life will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the Northwest Baptist Church in Ardmore with Pastor Becky Jackson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Marietta.
