Three new displays will debut at this year’s Festival of Lights Drive-Thru Display.

The new displays all feature animals, including one depicting animals cutting down trees, another with a football theme and a third large display, “Where’s Rudolph?”

The Festival of Lights Drive-Thru Display is one of the state’s premier holiday destinations. With more than 125 displays covering the 1.5-mile drive through Regional Park, the event also represents one of the most successful public/private community partnerships as well.

The success of this event is the result of the strong partnership between the Ardmore City Parks and Recreation Department, the Ardmore Chamber of Commerce and the Ardmore Tourism Authority.

This year’s Drive-Thru will open on Nov. 20 in conjunction with the 15th Annual Chigger Chase. The holiday run through the Christmas lights kicks off this Ardmore Christmas tradition. The Festival of Lights Drive-Thru will be open from Nov. 20 through Dec. 30. Drive-Thru hours are 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The Festival of Lights Auction, which is scheduled for Nov. 9 is the primary fund-raising event for this Ardmore holiday tradition. In addition to the auction, the chamber also provides funding through the sale of the display sponsorships in the Total Resource Campaign. Businesses throughout southern Oklahoma are offered the opportunity for a 3-year sponsorship of a specific display. This sponsorship provides the business visibility to the approximately 80,000 visitors to the Drive-Thru each year.

The Festival of Lights also extends a helping hand to many local charities.

Non-profit groups earn a portion of the nightly contributions by volunteering at the entrance and exit gates. In 2009, more than $8,300.00 was distributed to local organizations.

The Ardmore Tourism Authority actively promotes the Drive-Thru Display as it entices interstate travelers and bus tours to stop, shop, have dinner, spend the night and visit the delightful display. Marketing efforts are concentrated on tour bus groups and in the Oklahoma City and North Texas markets, as they provide the best opportunity to promote our community.

The community is invited to attend this year’s Festival of Lights Auction on Nov. 9 at the Ardmore Convention Center. Additional information on the auction or on the Festival of Lights Drive-Thru can be obtained from the Chamber of Commerce at (580) 223-7765.
